SUPER DUPER! Love Jack Benny . . . Re the Bible, the development of the "canon" of the Jews, the Catholic Churches (east and west) and the Protestant Churches is an interesting an involved story . . . as a convert to Catholicism I was amazed when I "discovered" the wonderful wisdom in the Book of Sirach, e.g. Such books which Protestants call "the Apocrypha" were in the Jewish canon at the time that the early church prepared its first canon. The Jews dropped these books from their canon some
. . . from their canon sometime after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem (70 AD). The "New Testament" canon was already established by the early church when books such as the Gospel of Thomas were written (generally late 2nd century AD). These books were examined and found to be either heretical in nature (most of the Gnostic books) or based on myth or unprovable events (such as the Gospel of Mary) or unproven as written by the named "author" (additional epistles of Paul) or "suppleme
. . . or "supplementary", meaning adding little or nothing to what was already in the canon by the time the church canon was finalized by the end of the fourth century. This does not mean though that the books cannot be studied or read. For example, the names of Mary;s parents, Ann and Joachim, which are used by the church, come from the Gospel of Mary! There is a lot of commentary abut them also. So keep on seeking!
tanddjohnson Did you get your DVD player to work? Jay must have got you those other movies. good
P.S. The Protestant Council of Trent dropped the Old Testament "Apocryphal" books to align their canon with the Jewish canon.
