Just ID'd one of the big singers wayyy up in the tall trees - I saw it from below but didn't have the camera. It was too high up anyway I think.
It's about 5 inches long, same size as a Western Goldfinch. Sings at surnrise and at dusk.
Yellow Warbler or Yellow Rumped Warbler(?!) (depending on who you ask)
Website I found for South Dakota birds only says:
"Yellow Warbler (dendroica petechia)
"One of the most widespread and common warblers in North America. A very common host to cowbird paratism, Yellow Warblers will often build a new nest floor over the top of cowbird eggs and lay another clutch.
"Habitat: Woodlands, brush and thickets, orchards, residential areas.
"Diet: Mostly insects. Shows a decided preference for caterpillars. Occasionally will eat fruits and berries.
"Nesting: May through July (South Dakota)"
Not a feeder bird, will eat suet.
****** NOT MY PHOTO!!!!! ******
This great shot was found by Google on PBase at URL www.pbase.com/muskrat/ image/44806310 but PBase says "bad link" so I can't properly credit him or her! . . .
~~~~~~~~~ BTW I have also found a lot of Flickr photos when Googling for images! Yet another reason most of my Flickr album is for "contacts only" to view!
